Cats And Dogs On The Bus
Monday, September 15th, 2008The public bus has a policy – No pets during core hours (guide dogs are, obviously, not pets). Core hours don’t include weekends. That means that Saturdays and Sundays on the bus can be a zoo.
A lady gets on the bus, holding something wrapped in a towel. The towel is meowing. Yes, most (sane) people will use a cat carrier to transport their cat. This lady is using a towel.
The cat hisses and squirms and tries to get away. Cats aren’t the most social of creatures during the best of times. Wrap one in a towel and lug her on a crowded bus and you have a situation.
Then for fun, three stops down, add two owners with two dogs each. Big dogs, thankfully on leases, but still, big.
The dogs start to bark, pulling at their leashes, jumping up on nearby passengers. The cat is slowly clawing her way up her owner’s neck, leaving deep, bloody scratches as she goes. Other passengers look panicked. The bus is packed. They can’t get out of the way.
The cat owner requests a stop. Is it her stop? I don’t know. It could be she realizes she won’t live through a longer bus ride. The cat claws at her cheek.
The woman with cat gets off. The dogs make a run for it, pulling along their owners. The door shuts before they can get out. They press their noses against the glass, slobbering their disappointment.
